Gauge

EACH WEEK

Time and approvals

Record time by hand or with a timer, then submit, return, approve and correct it.

Every hour in Gauge is recorded against an engagement, a task and a service, in an explicit work timezone, and approved as an exact revision.

Record time

On Time, Manual time records an interval: the engagement, the person, the task, the service, the Start and End date and time (read in the work timezone), the work timezone, notes and whether it is billable.

Start persistent timer starts a timer that keeps running until you stop it, even if you close the page. Choose Stop timer on the entry when you finish. Gauge refuses overlapping entries and a second running timer for the same person.

Submit, return and approve

  1. The person chooses Submit exact revision.
  2. The engagement's lead (or finance) chooses Approve exact revision, or Return for correction with a reason.
  3. A returned entry goes back to its person, who corrects it and submits again.

Approval fixes the rate and rounding that applied on the day the work was done, so adding a new rate later never rewrites approved work.

Correct approved time

Approved time changes only through an audited correction. The lead chooses Reopen with audited correction and gives a reason; the entry returns to its person, who corrects it and submits it for approval again. Review revision history shows every earlier revision, who changed it and when. Time that is already in a billing packet cannot be reopened; correct it with an adjustment packet instead (see Billing packets).
